Dear parents,

I hope you are staying well and coping with lockdown. I hope your child is being good.

Please find some lesson ideas below.

1 Mathematical Development : To count objects accurately

Practise counting objects. You can use everyday items such as sweets, fruit, spoons, small toys.

Remember to put the items in a line first and point to each one with your finger or a stick as you count it. 

Don’t forget to check your counting just in case you made a mistake.

2 Personal Social Emotional Development: To be aware of behavioural expectations

Encourage your child to say ‘Please’….’Thank you’ …  ‘You’re welcome’ throughout each day. 

Praise them for their lovely manners when they do so.

Also encourage them to say ‘Please can you help me?’ when they need help rather than just using gestures or crying.

3 Physical Development: To explore different ways of moving

Practise hopping

Practise skipping around (hopping on one foot and then the other alternately)

4 Expressive Arts and Design: To begin to describe the texture of things

Feel everyday objects e.g  cotton wool, book, plate, teddy bear

and materials  e.g jam, butter, cornflakes.

Encourage your child to say ‘It feels….’ 

and use words such as soft, hard, smooth, bumpy, prickly, slippery to describe each one.

5 Literacy : To show awareness of rhyme    

Watch the following rhymes and find the rhyming words 

Try pausing the video so that your child has to shout out the rhyming word before it plays.

See if your child can think of words that rhyme with each number word. This is for the oldest children only.

Finally some reminders….

Share stories and non-fiction books with your child, cook with them and explore in the garden if you are lucky enough to have one.

Talk,talk, talk with them.

 MAKE LEARNING FUN at all times.

Please do not give your child endless worksheets that are of no value at this age for nearly all of the class.

Have fun drawing to develop their pen control.
