Back to school Expectations – 8th June 2020

DONNINGTON PRIMARY SCHOOL

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are excited to welcome the Year 1 pupils back to Donnington Primary School. The school has carried out a detailed risk assessment and is following guidelines from the government. These guidelines may change and parents need to check their emails and the school website for up-to-date information.

On return to school your child will be assigned a ‘bubble’.  A bubble will contain the same teacher and group of up to 8 children every day. The teacher may not be your child’s class teacher.

Children will remain in this ‘bubble’ throughout the school day.  Strict social distancing rules will be in place where possible.  If a child does not follow the behaviour expectations, parents will be informed immediately and the child may need to be sent home to continue their online learning at home.

Parents will not be allowed to enter school premises, unless the school has contacted them to come and collect their child.

There will be no school on Fridays for Y1 pupils, in order to carry out a deep clean of the premises.

Pupils will be expected to attend every day and to be punctual according to their start time.  If a child misses a day they will not be able to attend for the rest of the week.

TRAVEL TO AND FROM SCHOOL

  • We expect children to social distance outside school, including on the way to and from school.
  • When travelling on public transport this week, it is advisable to wear face masks. However, these need to be disposed of at the school gate in the bins provided. Please remember from Monday next week face masks must be worn on public transport.
  • It is recommended to walk, scoot or cycle to school. If you are dropping your child off by car, respect

parking restrictions around the school.

  • At all times adhere to health and safety notices outside school.

 THE SCHOOL DAY

Each ‘bubble’ will have their designated start and finish times, which will be communicated through

teachers or office staff.

  • Year 1 pupils will enter and exit via the gate on Donnington Road.
  • All pupils will be expected to wear school uniform with trainers, as PE will be happening but children will not get changed for the lesson.
  • Pupils must not bring bags or equipment from home, except water bottles, which will be essential.
  • School will provide individual work packs for pupils, which will stay in school.
  • All pupils must follow school behaviour expectations and the instructions of teachers and other staff at all times.
  • To support pupils to remember the rules, signage and safety posters will be displayed.
  • All pupils will display good hand hygiene by washing their hands for 20 seconds with soap and hot water on entering and leaving their classroom (at start and end of day, break time, lunch time) and after going to the toilet and when necessary.
  • If a pupil sneezes or coughs, they will be expected to catch it, bin it, kill it, and wash their hands.
  • Tissues will be provided in each classroom.

Movement around the classroom must be kept to a minimum.

 EVACUATION AND FIRE SAFETY

The new evacuation routes and rules will be practised on return to the school site and signage will be in placed in each classroom.

 BREAK TIMES

Break times will be taken in ‘bubbles’. Social distancing and playground rules continue to apply. No football will be allowed as this is a close contact sport. The climbing frames equipment will also be closed.  The children will have access to sports equipment organised by the teachers but will not be able to bring any personal equipment into school.

LUNCH TIMES

Lunches will be staggered and taken in ‘bubbles’ in the classroom.

Every child will be told where to sit, plates will be pre–populated with food and social distancing and dinner hall rules continue to apply.   Children will be expected to stay in their seats until directed to leave the dining hall.

IF YOUR CHILD OR ANYONE IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD STARTS TO DISPLAY THE FOLLOWING COVID-19 COMMON SYMPTOMS:

  • loss of smell/taste / skipped meals
  • Unusual shortness of breath / unusual fatigue / fever
  • Persistent cough /hoarse voice
  • Diarrhoea / abdominal pain
  • Unusual chest pain or tightness in your chest
  • Confusion, disorientation, drowsiness

Follow the government guidelines, phone NHS 111 and inform the school. Do not send your child to school.

If a child develops symptoms in school, they will be isolated in a separate room. Parents will be informed immediately and asked to collect their child. It is vital that you follow the government guidelines, phone NHS 111 and book a test for your child as soon as possible.  The test results must be passed to the Head Teacher, who will make the decision if the child can return in school.

All parents of children within this bubble will be contacted and advised to follow government guidelines. If a child develops symptoms, ring NHS 111, book a test for the child and inform the school.

Thank you for your continuing support and cooperation.
