Full Opening Letter

26th February 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope that you and your families continue to remain safe and well.

As you now know we will be opening fully to all of our pupils on Monday 8th March and in preparation for this, Friday 5th March will be an INSET day and the school will be closed to all pupils.

We will use the time on Friday to thoroughly clean and prepare the school so that we can welcome the children back into a safe learning environment. The staff will also take part in INSET which will include Safeguarding and Curriculum Development.

Next Steps

In order to reduce the spread of infection we will be working to a system of set procedures which will include returning to the staggered starts and pick up times for different year groups. The times below are a guide and will be finalised next week.

We will also be asking you as parents and carers to support us by being extra careful and keeping to the following guidance;

  • Only one parent should drop off and pick up children - please wear face masks/coverings when doing so
  • Please do not stand in groups but keep to social distancing guidance and line up along the fences on the white markers
  • If you need to come to the school office please make appointments. Please wear a face mask and do not just turn up as we are continuing to restrict access to the school building

School Uniform

We expect all children to return to school wearing the correct Donnington Primary School uniform. Please contact the school office if you need to replace anything. Please also note that children should wear their PE kit to school on the day of their PE lesson and bring their own labelled water bottle each day.

Equipment

As before, the school will supply all children with pens, pencils etc. so there is no need for parents/carers to send children into school with equipment. Bags will be allowed and class teachers will confirm the days that they are needed next week.

The Curriculum

All aspects of the curriculum will be taught however we are currently reviewing whether to re-introduce swimming lessons and will be consulting with parents/carers in the next few weeks.

Class teachers will not be planning any educational visits in the near future and unfortunately we will not be able to invite parents to come into the school to attend assemblies. We are however looking into filming class assemblies and presentations for parents.

Catch-up support

We are currently finalising plans for the use of the additional funds provided by the government and will update parents/carers in a separate letter next week.

Pupil Well-Being

Class teachers will of course monitor the well-being of their pupils and plan regular Circle Time activities and discussions as part of their Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE) work. The school is also looking into additional resources to support pupils’ mental health.

Behaviour & Safeguarding

I am very happy to report that the behaviour of pupils at Donnington Primary School is good and I hardly have to speak to parents/carers about any negative behaviour.

We will be monitoring the behaviour of all pupils as they return to school and class teachers will be reminding their classes of the Donnington Values and the Five Be’s. Whilst we will obviously give all children a settling in period we will seek to discuss any evolving issues with you. Please speak to Ms Adae (Deputy Head) or me if you have any safeguarding concerns.

Thank you for all that you’re doing and demonstrating such patience and understanding.

Please continue to support your children as much as possible and contact their class teachers should you need to discuss their well-being or progress.

Best Wishes,

Ms Harrison
